Be sure to complete identity verification or your Developer Program benefits will be discontinued!

Not long ago, Apple sent an official email to developers informing them that Developer Program membership requires verification of identity, and there are only 18 days left until the verification deadline.

According to the email, starting July 1, 2020, regardless of when membership expires, all account holders whose accounts are located in mainland China or whose organizations are located in mainland China will be required to undergo a one-time identity verification process to renew their membership in the Apple Developer Program and access developer program benefits.

If verification is not performed in a timely manner, developers may not be able to log in to the iTC backend, and may not be able to properly operate their apps, such as up/down and version updates. In order to avoid interruption of Developer Program benefits, we recommend you to complete this verification before July 1.

Developer Program Benefits

The Apple Developer Program is a membership-based service for organizations, individuals, sole proprietorships, and one-person limited liability companies interested in creating apps for distribution on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. Membership includes access to Beta OS releases and advanced App features, tools to develop, test and distribute Apps, and Safari browser extensions.

This means that a developer account can only remain active and continue to receive membership benefits if the developer account has membership status. According to Apple, once a developer account membership expires, apps under that account will not be available for download, nor will new apps or updates be submitted. In addition, you will lose access to pre-release software and other related rights. However, users who have completed an install or download will still be able to use the app normally.

If your Apple Developer Enterprise account expires, you will no longer be able to download the App under that account, and those who have completed the installation or download will no longer be able to use the App normally, so you should renew your membership in a timely manner so that the App will not be affected.

Detail the developer identity verification process

If you do not complete the verification process in time, you will not be able to enjoy the above benefits. Therefore, developers should pay extra attention to the verification process required by Apple for Developer Program membership. Before starting the verification process, you need to complete the following preparations.

Preparation process

1. An iPhone running iOS 12.4, iOS 13.1 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 13.1 or later, with Lock Screen Passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID enabled.

2. Apple ID with dual authentication enabled. 3.

3. Have the latest version of the Apple Developer app on your device. 4.

4. Sign in to iCloud on your device.

Once you’re ready, you can complete authentication by following these seven steps.

Authentication steps

1. Open the Apple Developer App.

2. Select the Accounts tab.

3. Sign in using the Apple ID associated with your developer application or Apple Developer account.

4. Select “Verify Identity.

5. Enter your first name, last name, ID number, and phone number.

6. Take a selfie.

① Make sure your face is clearly displayed in the viewfinder, and select “Take.

②Check the selfie to make sure the photo is clear, and then select “Confirm”.

7. Check the information submitted, and then select “Continue”.

Once the authentication is approved, the developer will see a confirmation screen. Then you can go back to the webpage and complete the required process.

When entering your first and last name, you cannot enter an alias, nickname or company name as your last name or first name. Entering your legal name incorrectly may cause delays in registration review.
